About Our Mountain Location
We are located in Colorado's South-Central Rocky Mountains on the Arkansas River. This is the heart of the Big Horn Sheep Canyon and the Arkansas River Headwaters National Recreation Area.
It is pinion-juniper country at 6,300 feet in elevation, rising rapidly to sub-alpine, alpine, and above-timberline mountains over 14,000 feet high.
The area is known for great whitewater rafting, kayaking, fly-fishing, hiking, bird and wildlife watching, and hunting. Geology, rock-hounding, mines, ghost towns, off-road and four-wheel drive recreation areas are nearby. Visit our Fun Things To Do and Nearby Attractions pages for more information.
Our summer temperatures can range from daily highs/lows of 95/50, and nightly highs/lows of 70/40 degrees. We have easy access from U.S. Highway 50, and we are completely surrounded by public land. This means you can hike and fish for miles in any direction. We recommend you have plenty of water and sunscreen.

Cotopaxi Arkansas River KOA Amenities
All sites and Kamper Kabins are set up for a single family of four people and one passenger vehicle. Overflow parking/storage for trailers (or anything else that won't fit on a site), is available. Each site has a picnic table and a fire pit. A maximum of six people are allowed per site.
All of our tent sites are along the river. Some of the sites have a water spigot, but we do not yet have electricity at our tent sites. Tent campers who need water and/or electricity can rent a water/electric RV site, so long as they comply with our rules and policies.
We also have a tipi by the river, on a wooden deck. Water and electricity are available at the tipi.
Our water/electric RV sites have 20/30 amp service, and range from small (van/pick-up camper) to long (70 feet). This row is the RV row that is closest to the river. Please see our campground map. We also have five beautiful new back-in RV sites right on the river, with 20/30/50 amp service, water, concrete patios and tables with seating.
Our water/electric/sewer RV sites have 20/30 amp service and range from small (40 feet) to long (70 feet). Six of these sites also have 50 amp service.
We have eight one-room KOA Kamper Kabins. Each Kabin has a twin bunk and a double bed. These units come with foam mattress pads, electricity, lighting and a porch. Some Kabins have a ceiling fan, screen door and a porch swing. We have heaters for spring and fall, but no air conditioning. Box fans are available. You must bring your own sleeping bags/linens and use the nearby campground shower and bathroom facilities.
We now have Satellite High-Speed Internet service, with a Ganley Wi-Fi system for our guests who need to stay in touch. If you have a Wi-Fi card, you should be good to go. If not, come into the store during regular business hours and hook up your lap top, or use our guest computer.
Our heated (84 degrees), outdoor swimming pool is open Memorial Day through Labor Day Weekend. There is a rustic indoor/outdoor pavilion right on the river for group meetings and cooking.
We also have a playground with slide, swings, merry-go-round, spring animals and tetherball, mini golf, horseshoes, volley ball court, and basketball hoop.
Our clean men's and women's bathrooms, showers and laundry are open all night long for our guests.
We have a small convenience store with a limited selection of retail merchandise, such as loose-bottle liquid propane gas, firewood, ice, souvenirs, groceries, RV and camping supplies, snacks, fishing gear, toiletries, drinks and sporting goods.
The main building also has a coin laundry, pay phone, video games, pool table, pin ball, foosball, DVD/VCR rentals, and a high speed internet access computer.
We do have facilities for horses. Please call in advance to discuss price, availability and arrangements.
Sorry, but we do not sell tobacco or alcohol products on site. However, the Cotopaxi Store and Busch Liquors in Swissvale are short drives away up river (via Highway 50).

Groups and Reunions
Our easy-access, mountain location is perfect for a family reunion or company retreat. There are limited distractions and varied outdoor activities to make your stay with us as relaxing or busy as you want to make it.
We recommend that, whenever possible, groups visit the campground/motel in advance to see our facilities and select the specific sites/rooms they would like to reserve. We are here all year but it is best to call if you would like to visit during the winter when we are closed.
There is a rustic indoor/outdoor pavilion right on the river for group meetings and cooking.
Sorry, no group discounts for special events or holidays!
